Shep was not the original Leg Lamp creator

Many fatheads probably accept as unassailable truth that Shep was the first to conceive of the Leg Lamp, which he disclosed in print in chapter 10 of In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash, his 1966 self-described "novel." However, it is simply untrue that he was the first to imagine such an illuminating extremity. Decades before the Leg Lamp made its cinematic appearance in "A Christmas Story," and well before it appeared in Shep's novel, a sexy lamp -- in strikingly similar form to Nehi's leggy logo -- was briefly (but widely) marketed in a trade publication doubtlessly read by Shep. And like Shep's, the nearly two-foot-high lamp was even topped by a short, peekaboo shade in the form of a woman's skirt. . . . 0
