Here's to you, Delbert Bumpus. Date: 07-02-2017 By: Colonel	On June 6, 1944, Delbert Bumpus went ashore in a light tank on Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. His tank was in support of the infantry troops of the Big Red One that day. It was on that beach that Delbert assumed command of his tank after its commander was struck in the head by an artillery shell and died immediately after landing on Easy Red sector. Although Delbert did not meet a similar fate, he would be permanently damaged by the horrors he witnessed that day and the many days immediately following. He never fully recovered. 11-08-2017 ( Reply#: 9161 )	Colonel	Thank you, Bob. Delbert was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor by a grateful nation for his heroism in Normandy that spring and summer. He was evacuated back to the States that fall, a broken man. He suffered from PTSD all his remaining days. And Shep's widely published, mean-spirited disparagement of Delbert and his family taunted them through their lives. One can only speculate why Shep -- who never left the States during WWII -- picked on a genuine war hero to savagely demean . . . .
