Interesting that such a sign would exist, for as we all know, Indiana Harbor was just a section of East Chicago. It never existed as an incorporated city/town on its own. |

The guy they bought it from said something like, "I want to get rid of it." He may have said he didn't like it--acted as though that was his feeling about it.
I don't know in what part of Indiana he was--they don't give specifics, which is
wise. |

I think Bob K has found the answer!
Here's a South Shore Freighter rumbling through the other side of East Chicago, downtown 4 corners at Chicago Ave. and Indianapolis Blvd.

My dad was the policeman on the 4 corners. The mill traffic was very heavy during morning and afternoon rush hour.
On the left corner of the photo, you can see Haney's Rx store. I worked there as a stockboy all through high school. Further down the block is the Voge theater, where I spent many a Saturday afternoon watching movies. Next to Haney's is Friedman's jewelers.

Up along the lake by Inland Steel there are several RR going through and that is where the station was located.

Looks like a railroad sign to me. I worked for the Indiana Harbor Belt in Indiana Harbor for a couple of winters, handling cars bringing coke to US Steel when Lake Michigan froze. |
