The Original Hammond "Dinosaur Kids!" Date: 07-21-2011 By: HassoBenSoba	Back in the mid-late 50's, my late brother Mike and I were the only kids we knew of who were interested in Dinosaurs, if you can imagine that. Actually, I'd say our interest was more like an obsession. So my mother contacted the Hammond Times, who sent out a reporter to interview Mike and me in our living room at 6912 Magoun Ave. Here's a copy of the interview as it appeared in the HT on Sunday, October 20, 1957, a beautiful sunny fall day, leading up to a fabulous Halloween. Bill Bucko will immediately recognize the great old wax dinos made by the Miller Company that Mike and I are holding in the photo. (Too bad a lot of the text got lopped off of this scan). Too bad my brother Mike didn't join us for this shoot. It wasn't long after that when I was in class with Mike, maybe one year. He could draw some of the coolest movie monsters. One in particular that I remember was a giant octopus coming out of the water and wrapping around Golden Gate bridge or something. I got shanghi'd to St Catherine of Sienna. I didn't see Mike again until my Frosh year at Noll, again only one year. I went to Morton after that. Maybe it was all of these things that helped cement the image of that article in my mind. Amazing. Remind us again where you were and what you were doing in fall of '57. Probably playing 'guns' in preparation for Viet Nam which I had no idea was coming. I played 'lot' baseball, but was no good at all in little league. Please don't ask what I did last week. Larry

The octopus that attacked the Golden Gate Bridge in 1955 actually had only 5 tentacles, because that's all the movie makers could afford to pay Ray Harryhausen for, when he worked on "It Came from Beneath the Sea."
