Those NW Indiana Times posters must be behaving like Ralphie's old man, who "worked in obscenity the way other artist worked in oils or pastels" and who "wove a tapestry of obscenity that, as far as we know, is still hanging out over Lake Michigan somewhere".
My compliments to all of you posters here, on the way you comport yourselves and on your graciousness. You are the best. What have we to argue about, except our memories? |

Amen Bro. Tom J. Let us be able to enjoy our memories, good or otherwise. |

Tom J,
I agree with you and I can't understand why there has to be confrontations. We all share a common bond here, not shared memories but relating our memories of youth at a more innocent time. I think I am a youngster in this group but I do remember downtown Hammond, taking the bus when I was a kid and not really worrying about having my life in danger. I guess it is the time we are living in now.

Most of the people on those other Region message boards are much younger than most of us Sheptalk members. They were not brought up the way we were, and many of them have no respect for others.
I don't mean to put down younger folks in general, just the ones who seem to spend all their time on message boards causing trouble. They would love to take over this message board, believe me.
I wish we had a hundred new members, but only if they share our love for Hammond and the rest of the Region from our day and had the respect for others that the current members do.

I am so happy to have found this forum for discussing topics concerning Northwest Indiana.
I was searching for information about the late East Chicago hermit Martin Piniak when I stumbled onto this forum. I am a former reader of the NWITimes fiasco they refer to as a forum. It is refreshing to discover a place where postings are intelligent and considerate.
As a result, I will be selective in who I inform about this place. |

Welcome to Sheptalk! Tell us a little about yourself, if you don't mind.
Thanks for your promise to be careful whom you tell about this place.

I find it curious that there are no new postings to the "Christmas Story Movie" part of this forum. Usually with the holiday season and the showing of ACS on TV and selling of it in stores, some people look on the internet for more info and do some postings there.
That is how I came to find Sheptalk and ultimately moved to the Hammond IN part of the forum (although I check the other sections occasionally).
Just an observation. Tom - perhaps you are getting your wish of no new (read that as "rude") people joining the forum. |

I hope everyone understands that I love to see new members, but only the "right kind" of new members, those who share our love for The Region "of Old" and who were taught, as we were, to be respectful to one another.
I was thrilled to find the NWI Times message board a few years back, and I thought I had found a good way to "reconnect" with my roots. Boy, was THAT a mistake! There was nothing going on there but fighting. It was impossible to have a decent conversation about ANYTHING. I sure don't want to see Sheptalk turn into something like that.

I could not agree more gentlemen ... and ladies.
I had goose bumps when I came across this wonderful site
and hope that it will grow as time goes on. I am also glad
that I was welcomed here, and like some of you stated ... I
will certainly watch who I tell about this site because not
only do I own my own forum but I an also co-admin on another
and I have dealt wit a lot of folks on these things for a lot
of years and there are some real winners out there.
I do not allow the drama on mine that I have seen on other sites
and we all just have a good time and try to enjoy whats left of
life on the green side. Its not very big either and altho
I have close to a thousand members there are only 50-60 that pop
in daily.
Never heard of this other place you speak of and by the sounds of
it I'm glad I found you all first ...
Whoever maintains this ... Thank You

Yeah, Six, we can keep a secret. Are your forums Hammond related?
