From Hammond to Highland? Date: 08-18-2009 By: Carol	I grew up at 6824 Leland Ave., 3 blocks east of Indpls Blvd off of 169th St. Since all the houses looked the same, it was the 3rd house on the left (the first brown one). After I got married, we moved to 9432 Anthony Pl, Highland. That's where my kids grew up. Yvonne Stavitzke's brother lived next door and Hank Bremer lived down the street with his family. Ironically, both Yvonne and Hank died of complications from MS. I wanted and was able to provide a block for my kids to grow up on as wonderful as my neighborhood in Hammond.	7

08-18-2009 ( Reply#: 3621 )	BobK	We (my wife and kids) moved to Highland in 1971 and lived there for 19 years. We were in the 9100 block of Cottage Grove Ave two doors from Martha. Shortly after moving their my in-laws moved from the north side of Hammond to 41st St just a block from us. My youngest brother and his family lived on 5th St, four doors north of 45th. 08-19-2009 ( Reply#: 3633 )	Carol	Many Hammondites migrated to Highland during that time, as I remember. Now everone is going east to Valpo area or south to St. John or Schererville.

08-19-2009 ( Reply#: 3640 )	Carol	Wow, not many Hoosiers moved to IL. Most moves to IL were job related, I guess. My girls stayed in Highland. My older daughter had 3 kids in college at the same time, but one was graduated from IU this year and is now employed by Nestle USA. The younger 2 are still in college so my daughter is staying put until they are both out. They intend to move after youngest is graduated, but that might be a long time as she has opted to enter pre-med. My younger daughter married a global geologist and moved to Sugar Land, TX. Her daughter is still in Jr. High.
