Nice looking bunch of kids!
Congrats (fifty years late) on your first communion, Larry.
I think a speech is called for here. Say a few words. [:D]

The picture was taken shorlty after the 8am Mass on Monday, May 4th, 1959. As I recall, the day was sunny and gorgeous, and we had the rest of the day FREE! I still have my prayer book and the (artificial) boutenniere which we had in the photo. In fact, I JUST wore the VERY SAME boutinniere this afternoon for a concert of the Northbrook Symphony orchestra which I conducted---FIFTY YEARS to the DAY of my First Communion!
The Pastor of OLPH, Monsignor Reinig (in the front row) was a very austere, stern and authoritarian man who held us all in awe. The other two parish priests at the time, Father Lawrence Heeg and Father Dennis Blaney, are still active in the not-too-distant area.
You will see that I still remember most of my classmate's names (the 5th boy in Row #4 is Patrick KERR). Can anyone help identify the remaining kids whose names I have left blank?
Happy to share this memento of those great times. Thanks to my brother Mike for posting this.

Thanks for your post, Larry, and thanks to you, Mike, for starting the thread and posting the picture.
This is the stuff of American childhood they way it SHOULD be! How sad that kids are not growing up today like we did back then. The American family is becoming extinct.
I'm so thankful that my parents were Christians and that we went to church as a family as I was growing up.

You're welcome! I just wish that 1) the text that is attached to the photo on my Photobucket page would've displayed here, and 2) I hadn't goofed with the Communion/Confirmation detail. [:p]
