Anybody want a job? Date: 11-08-2008 By: Tom J	Inland Steel is hiring! No HS Diploma needed, no experience needed. Amazing starting pay rate of $2.64 per hour! This ad was in the March 19, 1969, edition of the Times. Remember when there was FULL EMPLOYMENT in the Region? I had worked the previous summer at Youngstown Sheet & Tube, #3 Sheet Mill. I wonder what my pay rate was that summer back in 1968? 12-07-2009 ( Reply#: 4099 )	Jay	Today, you would probably have to pay them to get hired. Just one year later (in 1970), I was earning $1.75/hour working as a lifeguard at a park pool in East Chicago.

Bernie Drosos was the Park Commissioner and I worked for him one year doing fareway and green maintenance at Todd Park (that would have been around summer of 70 or 71.
