Seeking contributions for a book about Minas's

Edward C. Minas III, grandson of the founder of the Edward C. Minas Company and former employee of the same, has written a book on the history of the store.
An appeal has been made by Dave Minas, Ed's son, for any pictures or articles pertaining to the Minas Store.
If any of you have something that you think might be worthy of being included in the book, you can contact me through my profile here at Sheptalk, and I can pass it along to Dave.
The book is basically finished, so whatever is added at this late stage would need to be something very significant. Pictures are what Dave is mostly interested in obtaining, but I'm sure a good story would also be a candidate for inclusion in the book.
Thanks.
Tom

This is my first post on the forum. I was born in Hammond in 1941.
My mother worked in the Minas store for a number of years in the 1950s and into the 1960s. I still have some of the newsletters, I believe. I don't know what I could offer directly, beyond my memories of the black marble and brass around the elevators fronts, the glass cases containing jewelry and the wonderful train setup at Christmas in the basement and chocolate bars Miss Katie Blust gave me when I came in to visit my mom. I might be able to answer some questions, however, if anything arises. I may also have some pictures, but it might take me awhile to find them.
Greetings to all from central Germany.

Welcome, Bruce! Thanks for posting.
I know your mom must have known my dad, Paul Johnson. Dad was the one-armed man, as many people would remember him, who managed the parking facilities. Do you remember him by any chance?
I would LOVE to read those newsletters, if you could scan them and post them somewhere, or Email them to me!

My memories of Minas's are fairly vague, dating mostly from when I was around 5.
But wasn't that the store that sent change from a central cash resister through a system of plastic pneumatic tubes, to the individual registers?
Didn't it also have an in-store signalling system that mysteriously went "Bmmm, bmmm, bmmm ... Bmm, Bmmm, Bmmm" every now and then?

I believe you are correct on both counts, Bill.
I definitely remember the chime, or whatever you would call it.
I also think Minas's was the first store in Hammond to make use of the "charge plate." It was the first store in downtown Hammond to be air conditioned, too.

Hey Guys
I will contact my Cousin, Edgar PEGLOW who married Eleanor Minas in 1952, I think. I have a VHS tape of the family movies made by Peglow. Perhaps that will help someone.
