But the story you're describing matches "The Lost Civilization of Deli," in Shep's book A Fistful of Fig Newtons. A future civilization excavates New York, and is puzzled by what it finds. 09-12-2007 ( Reply#: 1732 )	w1aim	I just replied to the original poster, but the book in question is something that would most likely delight ALL Shep fans. The actual title is: The Weans, and it was written by Robert Nathan. Published by Alfred A. Knopf in NYC, 1960. It presents a great picture of how wrong you can be about an ancient civilization when all you have to go on are just a few artifacts. In the book the future archeologists are digging in the remains of the cities of a past civilization called the "WE" (or the "US" or sometimes "WE-UNS") who were at odds with another past civilization called the "more-US" (or "USSR"). A delightful read, although it helps if you understand some aspects of mid 20th century life in places like Hollywood, Washington, NYC or Miami.
